«I was born in the family of artists in Verkhnyaya Maslovka where the profession of the artist was inherited in each generation or in a generation at least. I succeeded it from my grandfather Vladimir Ivanovich TELEPNEV. In the beginning of perestroika I became enthusiastic with camera journalism. I snapshooted everything – political manifestations and cultural events, hot beds of war and journeys. That was an incredible and cruel school – blood, tears, human sufferings, ungovernable passions… That was the reason why I drug up the activity of press photographer for ever. Hereafter the blossom-time started. In Russia there appeared beautiful women magazines. Everything was absolutely pretty and absolutely toyish... having worked in fashion and advertising photography for about 10 years I understood that I was fed up with all that and returned to that with what I started – to the perfect art. It is perfect because it is free of cynicism of politics, show-window prettyism. In general everything happened as it had to happen. I am engaged in what I can do well, and if my grandfather is alive, I think, he would not be ashamed of me»
